FaceBook is definitely a social network worth keeping an eye on.
Recent developments there look really interesting, and many well informed folk think it's going to be a 'Big Deal'.
I was recently talking to a friends daughter who is at college, she migrated from MySpace to FB, when she left school, which seems a pretty common occurrence. But a lot of older 'people', (aka farts) like me are getting into it.
In her view, FaceBook seemed more 'mature'.
I've been noodling around a bit, and am amazed at the size of some of the communities on there.
You might want to check it out yourself, but before you do:
Robin has an excellent post here, if you'd like to find out more.
I think the most interesting thing about Facebook is that it is pure social networking. The purpose of the site is not to be creative with your page but simply to communicate with new friends, old friends and of course other people's friends.
Ultimately when it comes down to it are we really interested in whether somebody has chosen a technicolour background to their page when all we want to know is the gossip from last Saturday night?
Myspace lets you post an image, Facebook lets you post a message.
Perhaps this is why Myspace is more applicable to a slightly younger generation. They have the time to customise their pages and enjoy other people's creations whereas some of us older folk do not.
Don't forget the strong music industry presence in Myspace too. You can't listen to music on Facebook. Perhaps it would be unfair to say the music industry is dominated by image but it certainly plays a key role.
